Last month, Privy Circle was a media sponsor for a private Academy event at The London West Hollywood.
Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences invites a number of new members to join their organization,
which is responsible for the Academy Awards. Each of the Academy's 17
branches curates their own list for this exclusive process. Candidates
must be sponsored by at least two present members in the branch, and
must have “demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field of
theatrical motion pictures.” This year’s inductees included 80-some new
Academy members of Asian descent.

The private London West Hollywood event on September 25th was a reception to welcome these new members. Friend of Privy Circle, Teddy Zee, producer of “Hitch” and “The Pursuit of Happyness,” was one of the host committee. The event was a celebratory culmination of the unified letter to the Academy by Academy members of Asian descent, asking for a commitment to greater diversity after the Chris Rock #OscarsSoWhite controversy. “It empowered us and it rallied the community,” said Zee.
Alongside Privy Circle, the other media sponsors at this private
gathering were Ben Tran, Lucy Chao, and Maggie Lau of Plan C Agency,
and Linda Ngay, Mary Tang, and Tae Hong of Kore Asian Media.
